It’s very worrying when the first match of the World Cup is coming up and one of the key players gets injured playing a preparatory game. Even worse is the situation for the Netherlands’s coach, Marco Van Basten, whose preparation for the match with Serbia y Montenegro next Sunday might have a slight change since three of his possible players were injured last Sunday facing Australia.
The players were: Phillip Cocu, Wesley Sneijder and Giovanni van Bronckhorst. Sneijder’s lesion seems to be the most serious one. Van Basten is waiting for news about it and the repercussions it may have in the participation of the young player in Germany 2006.
After the game Van Basten said: “Sneijder limps and has his ankle bandaged. He’ll have to wait 24 hours to confirm the extent of the injury. We have to wait and see how it evolves”.
Thankfully, the news about Van Bronckhorst and Cocu are more encouraging, it seems that both are going to recover from their lesions on the ankle and on the thigh. “Fortunately, the injury is not severe, because if it had been, I would have missed the World Cup”.
