10% of the Spam is about false lotteries and gambling games
Although e-mails with sexual offers and pornography were the most common kind of Spam that were sent during the first quarter of 2006, representing 24% of total Spam, there have been other growths in the number of e-mails announcing false awards in gambling games such as lottery. The total number of Spam sent in the first three months of the current year increased 18%, compared to last year’s statistics.
Ipswitch, Inc., is a company that develops software solutions, and it has announced the results of its last research about Spam, which took place during the months of February, March and April of the current year; 2006. According to the results thrown by this investigation, unsolicited e-mails, or spam as its commonly known, have grown 5% compared to the last quarter of last year; 2005.
Ipswitch detected that there were mainly four categories of Spam:
1. Pornography – 24%
2. Loans – 18%
3. Medicine – 17%.
4. Electronics / Illegal Software – 16%
5. Lottery and Hazard Games – 10%
Surprisingly, e-mails with sexual offers (or pornographic) were the most common type of Spam sent during the last quarter, totalizing 24% of total Spam, which represents a growth of 18% compared to last year’s statistics.
