Slots and racing will be combined at the new complex
The new Harrah’s Chester Casino and Racetrack was presented to the press this week during a tour hosted by Jason Birney, Advertising and Public Relations Manager. The public will not be able to enjoy much of what reporters saw when the “racino” opens on Sunday, since the facilities are not finished yet.
According to Birney, only a bar and concession area will be open at first. The sports bar, coffee shop, diner, buffet, restaurants, VIP lounge, gift shop and the casino floor with its 2,750 slot machines will be inaugurated around January.
“For now, the track will host 10 races a day, expanding to 12 or 13 in November when Pocono Downs closes”, Mike Tanner, Director of Racing Operations for Harrah’s said. Tanner also explained why this “racino” is unique: “In almost all cases heretofore, slots have been placed into an existing racetrack. Harrah’s Chester, has been built with the fusion of slots and racing since day one.”
The track was designed in a European style and the surface was prepared with TrackRock, a stone/dust aggregate.
