Gamblers still online despite law
The US gambling ban has not stopped punters from betting
Industry experts say the law approved in the United States to cut back online gambling has not stopped Americans from betting online, despite all the fuzz created around it. The changes have benefited small companies that do not have to comply with the same standards big companies must meet.

The truth is that punters who really want to bet online, have found the way to do it. That is the case of Ethan Ruby, a New York citizen, who says that the law signed by President Bush has made it tougher for him to play poker online but he keeps on doing it.

The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act makes it illegal for U.S. banks and credit card companies to process payments to gambling sites. However, gamblers can bet through third-party sites that make transactions easier.

In 2004, the online gambling industry generated more than $7 million in profits worldwide, with American bettors representing at least half the market.
