Brussels wants Paris, Rome and Vienna to open gambling market
The European Commission wants sports bet to be open
The European Commission wants France, Italy and Austria to open the market for sports betting, which until now is monopolized by the respective public administrations, in order to guarantee the free circulation of capitals and services within the unit, as other countries have already done.

However, the governments of Paris, Rome and Vienna have resisted to do it, the reasons they have claimed no to do it are of public health. According to them, the offer of chance games has already extended much within their territories, and to amplify it would have negative consequences for the population.

Brussels accepts this argument, but then it demands that the public administration gives away a part of its business to private operators, such as it happens in the United Kingdom, the most permissive country of the EU concerning gambling. If France, Austria and Italy refuse to do it, the communitarian executive could open a sanction process.
